The threats facing Europe and our companies are both current and substantial\, with a wide-ranging set of issues still unresolved. These challenges demand Europe to be unified and resilient beyond its current capabilities. Nevertheless\, a strong collective belief in Europe’s ability to overcome these obstacles persists. \nIs there a role for European corporate lawyers in addressing these challenges? Absolutely. Sharing best practices has evolved beyond routine optimisation techniques. Today\, lawyers must navigate complex issues such as tariffs\, sanctions compliance\, and ensuring business continuity even amidst diplomatic tensions or threats to national sovereignty. All these come in addition to the existing regulatory\, societal\, environmental\, and cultural considerations that remain essential. \nCompanies continue to form the backbone of Europe’s economic and social framework. In rapidly changing times\, companies must respond more swiftly than ever. Lawyers\, therefore\, must proactively anticipate these needs\, and authorities and regulators must actively facilitate this agility. The emergence of AI as a critical yet largely uncharted tool adds another layer of complexity\, as does Europe’s reliance on technological services that are predominantly non-European. Nevertheless\, for the long-term resilience of our continent\, perseverance and adaptability remain crucial. \nThese are extraordinary times\, and we should acknowledge them as such. With this in mind\, we hope this gathering in Madrid will serve as an opportunity for lawyers to unite\, exchange ideas\, and prepare actively for the future. Europe remains an exceptional place to live and work\, deserving of our celebration and protection. Let us share our insights and best practices to ensure it remains so.
